The Lady Capitals lost an absolute heart-breaker Thursday night, coming up just short of victory against Westwood. After a scoreless first half, senior mid-fielder, Cruz Escobedo gave Columbia the lead off a through ball from senior mid-fielder, Gretel Ajanel. After a quick rebound score from Westwood to tie the game, Cruz Escobedo put a beautiful shot from 20 yards out into the back of the net off of a deflected corner. With a Columbia victory only minutes away, Westwood managed to tie the game at 2-2, forcing overtime, ultimately leading to penalty kicks. Despite a beautiful opening PK from junior mid-fielder, Jennifer Muhawenimana, and an incredible diving save from senior goal keeper, Genesis Hepburn, Westwood was able to just inch out victory 2-1 in PKs. Despite the gut-wrenching loss, the Lady Capitals held their heads high after a hard fought battle. Columbia looks to rebound tonight against Chester at home, their fourth game of the week. Come out and support at 6:00pm.
