The Capitals did not meet projections for the Region Championship due to factors outside of their control, but still battled hard against the other teams in the region, landing in 4th place. The Caps were led by Cruz Escobedo, who finished 12th overall in the Varsity Girls race, with a time of 27:00. The Capitals left the meet with an increased sense of motivation to improve times and finishing positions for the AAA Upper State Championships next Saturday, Oct. 29th, at Woodmont High School.

Meet Recap

Edging towards the end of the season, Columbia High took on the Sandhills (CiCi’s) Invitational in preparation for the upcoming Region, Upperstate, and State Championships for Class AAA. Lway Htoo (21:33) and Jaylen McClary (21:19) both hit PR times for the Capitals on one of the hardest courses of the year at Sandhills Recreational Park. The Lady Caps were led by 8th grader, Paw Htoo, follwed by 7th grader, Htee Shee Paw, and senior runner, Whitney Hicks. CHS Cross Country looks to hit more PR times at the region race tomorrow, which is also held at Sandhills Recreational Park. Races start at 5:15pm, so come out and cheer the Capitals on!

Meet Recap

Columbia High put up a solid performance at this years Richland One District Championship at the historic Columbia Speedway. Tariq Copeland once again led the Capitals to a 4th place finish by placing 9th overall with a time of 18:50. The boys team finished 3rd place by only 19 points. The Lady Caps were led by sophomore, Cruz Escobedo, with a 26:30 that was good enough for a 3rd place team finish. Capitals Cross Country races again this Saturday at Sandhills Recreational Park for the CiCi’s Invitational, and further look to climb up the standings.

The JV Capitals fell at home tonight to Indian Land. The lead changed several times including a Columbia score late to tie the game at 14. The Warriors scored the only points of overtime to win. Overall record falls to (1-3). The team is off next week and will travel to Camden on October 26.
