FALL SPORTS PREVIEW

The Capitals look to get back to athletic competition for the first time since March 13th. With a new region alignment and the pandemic modifying practice schedules and procedures, athletic events will look much different in Columbia. The Caps look to take the fields and court by storm this Fall. Below, we will take a look at the teams and preview their upcoming seasons!

Cross Country

The Capitals’ cross country program look to find their way with some new faces and a strong group of returning runners. Led by head coach Lucas Snyder, the cross country team will look to improve on some already impressive personal records. Coach Snyder had this outlook for the team “We are returning five male runners this season, all of which have personal records under 25 minutes. We’re working to be competitive in the newly aligned region, and we’re very pleased with the potential of our two brand new male runners.

The Varsity Girls team will practice will be in full swing next, with multiple two-sport athletes sharing their time to help us compete on the region level.”

The cross country team will next compete at Pelion on September 30th.

Football

The Capitals will kick off the season with back to back Region III 2A road trips (at Newberry September 25th & at Gray Collegiate October 2nd). The Caps look to improve on last year’s record of 1-9 with some exciting freshmen talent and improved returners. The 2020 Capitals will look to Jani Broadnax, Omari Brown, Isaiah Black, Kobe Wright, Jalen Blunt and Tyheece Buchanan lead the team into one of the most difficult 2A regions in South Carolina. When asked, Head Coach Jason Bush made it clear that consistency and competition will be the way forward for the Capitals. Coach Bush added “We expect to improve on a daily basis. Also we expect to minimize our mistakes and capitalize on the mistakes of our opponents.”

The Capitals will open up at home vs. Batesburg-Leesville on October 9th at Bolden Stadium.

Volleyball

The Lady Caps opened their season Wednesday at home vs. Newberry. With some new faces involved with the program, the Capitals look to grow into the 2020 season. The Capitals are coached by Dr. Anderson, Coach Tanguay and Coach English. They look to get take a big step forward upcoming on Monday, September 14th as the defending region champions visit Columbia.

Looking forward, the Lady Caps will play at Gray Collegiate on Wednesday (September 16th), and away at Newberry on Thursday (September 17th)
